Ames woman’s hat a hit at convention

August 17, 2000 By admin

One of the Iowa delegates at the Democratic National Convention has been photographed and interviewed a lot this week, because of her headgear. Margo McNabb of Ames has been wearing a souped-up straw hat.It features four American flags on the front, and festive flowers in patriotic red, white and blue. The hat ties under her chin with a red, white and blue ribbon. It was constructed by her friends in Pasadena, California. McNabb says it’s easy to wear, and quite eye-catching. She’s been interviewed by journalists all over the world.McNabb, who is 72, is a long-time democratic party activist attending her first-ever national convention.
