The word of the day is “jitters” as media outlets report democrats in Congress and delegates to this convention are uneasy about how party nominee Al Gore will perform tonight. As you know, Gore will deliver a prime-time speech as he formally accepts his party’s nomination. Iowa U-A-W President Dave Neil of LaPorte City says he has no qualms about Gore. House Democrat Leader Richard Gephardt spoke to Iowans this morning, and ridiculed the tax cut republican nominee George W. Bush has proposed. Gephardt said it’s like the 1981 Reagan Tax cut which landed the federal government in deep deficits that were cleared off the books by the Clinton/Gore economic plan.Congressman Leonard Boswell of Davis City says Gore’s qualifications for office differ greatly from the Republican ticket of George Bush and Dick Cheney.North Carolina Senator John Edwards, a potential presidential candidate of the future, stopped by this morning’s Iowa delegate meeting to take a rhetorical poke at the Republican party’s nominee. He said the W in George W. Bush’s name stands for wrong.Edwards was on Gore’s list of potential running mates.
