Cedar Rapids woman faces charges after collecting 44 cats

August 24, 2000 By admin

Animal control officers who rescued 44 cats from a house in Cedar Rapids say most of them suffered from injuries or diseases. Most of the cats were recovered Tuesday but officers are still working to clear the house out as some of the felines were living in holes in walls. Animal Control spokeswoman Kaye Chadima says they’d gotten calls about this house.Conditions in the home were deplorable, according to Chadima. She says her office was at the home on a complaint two years ago but the situation wasn’t serious then. Some cats were found dead in a car in the yard. Many others have been euthanized. Chadima says charges are pending against homeowner Rosemary Khalid.
