A survey of Iowa’s 540 public libraries finds most of them are linked to the Internet — and few of them have security measures in place to block porn. The survey found 90-percent of the state’s libraries have public access to the World Wide Web and 95-percent of those have no “filters” to prevent kids and anyone else from entering adult sites.State librarian Sharman Smith says the libraries do have Internet use policies in place and the current system is working well without the security filters on the computers. Smith says most libraries are small enough that librarians can look over the shoulder of those using the computers.A separate study by the state Department of Education focused on Iowa’s 373 school districts. It found 371 of them had Internet access and 132 used anti-porn software.
