First RI football poll finds familiar teams at top

As usual, an Iowa City school is top ranked in class 4-A in the pre-season Radio Iowa high school football poll. After winning three titles in the 90’s, Iowa City High is picked to dethrone cross town rival West in class 4-A this season. Cedar Falls is second, Iowa City West, West Des Moines Dowling and West Des Moines Valley complete the top five. In 3-A, defending champion New Hampton opens top rated. Harlan is second and rounding out the top five it is Denison-Schleswig, Clear Lake and Washington. Sigourney-Keota leads 2-A, Iowa Falls is second, than its Emmetsburg, Dyersville Beckman and Central Lyon. After winning the 2-A crown last year, West Lyon moves to 1-A and opens top ranked. Algona Garrigan is second followed by Southern Cal, Madrid and North Tama. Rockwell-Swaledale is top ranked in 1-A, Hubbard Radcliffe is second, West Bend Mallard, Lynnville-Sully and Treynor complete the top five. Elk Horn Kimballton leads the eight-man poll. Whiting is second then its Okoboji, Murray and Adair Casey.
