Tornado season finishes with an average amount of twisters

Iowa’s right on track for tornadoes this year — as that season concludes. Figures from the National Weather Service indicate we’ve had a relatively average year in the twister category.National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Johnson says 43 tornadoes have touched down in Iowa this year. The annual average during the past decade is 44.That lone fatality was in Black Hawk County. Most of the tornadoes came this year during April, May and June, but Johnson says we can get twisters at any time of the year.The “traditional” tornado season is now over.
