Beer flows for charity

September 5, 2000 By admin

It’s not the norm to think about drinking beer to raise money for charity, but that’s what’s going on in Des Moines. Iowa’s largest micro-brew beer-tasting event is underway today and tomorrow.Doug Rex is vice president of Partners in Charity, which is sponsoring the Heartland Brewfest. The event will feature live rock music and samples of 36 beers, brewed in places from Iowa to Germany. Several wines from area wineries will also be featured.A “Wishes Come True” bike ride is also being held today in conjunction with the Brewfest. The ride starts at 9 a-m at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The Brewfest runs today from 5 p-m to midnight and tomorrow from 3 p-m to midnight. Rex says all proceeds from the events will benefit a handful of charities. For more information, surf to “www.thebrewfest.com” or call (515) 554-3378.
