The news director of an Iowa T-V station will be in Washington, D-C tomorrow, testifying before a U-S Senate Committee. K-C-C-I news director Dave Busiek of Des Moines will talk about the success of having broadcast equipment in Iowa courtrooms during trials. He says the experience in Iowa has been terrific the last 20 years. He says no decision has been overturned due to problems with cameras in the courtroom.U-S Senators are considering a bill which would allow cameras and microphones in Federal courtrooms. Busiek says there are benefits to having the cameras in those courtrooms.Busiek says the recent trials in the case of Shelby Duis point to the success of having broadcasters inside the courtroom during a trial. He says all Iowans are better informed by seeing the information that unfolded in the trial.Cameras and microphones are allowed in the courtroom not by state law, but by rules adopted by Iowa judges. Nearly all states allow broadcast equipment in the courtroom to cover state trials, but Federal courtrooms are closed to broadcasters.
