Early losses lead to changes in RI football poll

September 6, 2000 By admin

Opening game losses caused a few changes in the Radio Iowa High School football poll. West Bend Mallard jumps to number one in Class A and Harlan in Class 3-A after losses by the preseason top ranked teams. Lynnville-Sully, Treynor, Lisbon and Galva Holstein round out the top five in Class A. Last week’s number one Rockwell-Swaledale dropped to number six. In Class 3-A Denison-Schleswig, Clear Lake, Grinnell and West Delaware round out the top five. Preseason number one New Hampton fell to seventh. All the leaders stayed the same in the remaining classes. Iowa City High is number one in 4-A, followed by Cedar Falls, West Des Moines Dowling, West Des Moines Valley and Bettendorf. In 2-A Sigourney-Keota is number one, Iowa Falls second, Dyersville-Beckman, West Hancock and Solon round out the top five. West Lyon is on top in 1-A, followed by Algona Garrigan, Aplington-Parkersburg, Southern Cal and North Tama. Elk-Horn Kimballton continues to lead the eight-man poll followed by Whiting, Murray, Adair-Casey and Aurelia.
