Four more Iowa National Guard soldiers have been dispatched to help fight the wildfires in Montana. They are helicopter mechanics and avionics repairmen who are assigned to keep the “water bombers” flying.Iowa Guard spokesman Colonel Robert King says the four soldiers are from the Guard’s 109th Aviation Battalion, headquartered in Boone. Eight Iowa Guard members who are petroleum specialists were sent to the hot-spot last week to replace eight other Iowans, who were refueling helicopters that are hauling water.The Iowans are expected to come home in about 12 days, depending on the fires and other resources available.
