Drake makes QB switch despite win

September 7, 2000 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs head east this week to take on St. Ambrose in Davenport. Drake downed McKendree 28-11 in their season opener — while St. Ambrose easily handled Missouri Western, 42-21. Drake coach Rob Ash says it’s been a good back-and-forth series with each team winning at home.Winning teams don’t usually change their starting quarterback, but Ash is doing just that this week to meet a preseason promise. Ira Vandever will start this week after Solon Bell started last week. Ash says they determined the would alternate starts in the preseason and then chose a starter for the third game.Ash watched tape of St. Ambrose’s win last week, and was impressed. He says this could be a tight game. The Bulldogs and Fighting Bees kick it off Saturday night at 6:30 at Davenport’s Brady Stadium.
