Children’s wishes honored at Hawkeye game

About two-dozen Iowa children with life-threatening illnesses get the chance to forget some of their troubles and watch a college football game today. The University of Iowa Alumni Association organizes the annual outing for kids through the Make-a-Wish Foundation.Julie Williams is assistant director of programs at the U-of-I Alumni group. She says the youngsters are all big Hawkeye fans who’ll be going to today’s game, along with the tailgate parties and post-game celebrations.Some 23 children and more than 100 family members and friends will be attending the events, which include meeting Herky the Hawk and many of the football players and coaches. Williams says it’s a rewarding project on which to work.Iowa faces Western Michigan at Kinnick stadium with a 1 o-clock kickoff.
