Walker becomes the hunter after being the hunted on ISU squad

September 9, 2000 By admin

Iowa State senior Derrick Walker will take the field at Jack Trice Stadium for his second game starting at linebacker. He made the switch from quarterback this season after deciding he didn’t want to spend time on the bench waiting to get into the game.Walker had to adjust to making hits after spending his first three years as a Cyclone trying to avoid the hits. He says a quarterback has to play under control, while a linebacker runs all over the field.Walker led Iowa State with 11 tackles in the season opener against Ohio, including one quarterback sack. Walker says he could be more involved this week as Ohio’s triple option offense limited his ability to move all over the field.Walker is from Houston, Texas. Kickoff today against UNLV is 1pm.
