Leach hopes to grow voter support with trees

September 11, 2000 By admin

Congressman Jim Leach has decided to buy 10-thousand blue spruce trees as part of his re-election effort. Leach, who’s a republican, and his democrat opponent, Bob Smith, have agreed to forego using radio and t-v advertising. Leach campaign manager Rachel Lamb-Schrepferman says Leach decided to use five thousand dollars he would have used on ads to, instead, buy trees.Lamb-Schrepferman calls the trees “environmentally-friendly yard signs.”The campaign will give the trees to anyone who wants to plant one — and party affiliation will not be checked, according to the campaign manager.
