Attorney General wants more power to police airlines

September 19, 2000 By admin

Iowa’s Attorney General is joining his counterparts across the nation in lobbying Congress for a change in consumer protection laws regarding airports. Bob Brammer, a spokesman for Iowa’s Attorney General, says current law keeps states from enforcing some basic regulations against the airlines. The law prevents states from making airlines follow state consumer protection laws. Brammer says this exemption allows the airlines to use business practices that aren’t acceptable from other industries. He says they also want to be able to regulate the advertising claims made by the airlines.Brammer says this request has nothing to do with the concern over airline ticket prices.Iowa’s Attorney General is joining Attorneys General from 44 other states in asking Congress to make the change.
