A 21-year-old driver apparently failed to see a stopped school bus on a northeast Iowa highway this morning, and caused a three-vehicle accident. The bus, which was headed to the North Fayette school in West Union, had stopped on Highway 18 to pick up a kindergarten student.North Fayette Superintendent Ronald O’Kones says 21-year-old Brent Myers of Elgin drove his car into a station wagon that had stopped behind the bus. The collision pushed the station wagon under the bus.O’Kones says the 17 students aboard the bus and its driver were treated and released. The 64-year-old driver of the second vehicle, Earl West of Elgin, and the driver of the third vehicle are in the hospital, but both are reportedly in good condition. The superintendent says the mother of the kindergartner was waiting for the bus with her son — and that may have saved his life as she saw it happen and got the child out of the way.
