An Iowan who was U-S Ambassador to Cambodia says America is squandering its hard-earned reputation overseas. Dr. Kenneth Quinn left Cambodia in January to become president of the Iowa-based “World Food Prize Foundation.” Quinn says other countries see the U-S as an arrogant bully. He calls it a “dangerous perception” that over time will take its toll on the U-S. Quinn says that could leave America with few friends in the world.Quinn says the U-S can be credited with opening the world to trade.Quinn, who was in the U-S Foreign Service for 32 years, says U-S government foreign aid should not be cut back as it helps develop countries so those foreign consumers will buy American goods. Quinn is a native of Dubuque who worked for former Governor Robert Ray to bring refugees from Indochina to Iowa. Quinn made his comments during taping of the Iowa Public Television program, “Iowa Press.”
