Vandals drop tower, silence cell phones

An estimated 40-thousand cell phone customers in the Fort Dodge area are without service today after vandals toppled a 400 foot tower.Lori McConville of U-S Cellular says it appears the wires to the tower were cut. Customers served by the tower won’t get a signal when they turn their phones on.The outage affects a 40 to 50 mile area around Fort Dodge. She can’t say when the service could be restored.The tower was located east of Fort Dodge.
