Governor Vilsack hopes to quell criticism of state-led efforts to recruit immigrants to Iowa by stressing campaigns to lure former Iowans and other Americans to the state. Vilsack says he’s going to the state’s college campuses to urge the students to stay in Iowa once they graduate and the state has created a website to list job opportunities here. But to address critics of government initiatives to recruit immigrants, Vilsack plans to talk often about how most every Iowa family has an immigrant history.Vilsack is looking for at least one willing Iowa community to volunteer to be a center for new immigrants. Vilsack says many of U-S Olympic athletes are excellent examples of why immigrants come to America, and the contributions they can make once they get here.
