Vilsack not in favor of building a new prison

Iowa’s Governor isn’t ready to build another state prison. Last week, state prison director Kip Kautzky said if the state doesn’t put convicted drug users in substance abuse programs rather than prison, the state will have to build a new prison. Vilsack says he agrees something has to be done and will again ask for more money for drug treatment instead of money for a new prison.Vilsack asked republican legislators to spend 12 million dollars on substance abuse programs. Lawmakers approved seven million dollars less than he requested
