Candidate says Farm Bureau can’t do it all

September 26, 2000 By admin

A republican from Fairfield who’s running for Congress says the Farm Bureau doesn’t adequately represent the interests of small, family farmers. Jay Marcus, the republican running for Iowa’s third district congressional seat, wants the federal government to help set up a new organization dedicated to helping family farmers stay afloat. Marcus says the Farm Bureau is conflicted because it’s representing both big interests and family farmers.Marcus suggests that the feds should put up about a million dollars to set up an organization that lobbies solely for family farmers and devises new ways to market family farm products. Marcus’ 10-point ag policy also calls for a “Renewable Energy Act” that would boost production of ethanol, soy diesel and wind energy.Marcus is running against democrat Congressman Leonard Boswell of Davis City.
