It’s not “Doctor J” but “Doctor E” that’s scoring with competitors on the University of Northern Iowa campus — and beyond. Over the next 12 weeks, “The Mysterious Doctor E” will post half-a-dozen mind-boggling math puzzles on the Internet and around the U-N-I campus. Competitors from around the globe have already e-mailed their solutions to email@example.comU-N-I Math professor Douglas Shaw says you don’t have to have a math degree to solve the problems. While anyone can play, you must be a U-N-I student to win.The winner gets a hundred bucks and some expensive puzzles. Shaw hasn’t seen the movie “Good Will Hunting” in which a college janitor solves a blackboard math problem and reveals his genius. U-N-I’s math department ran a similar contest in the fall and spring semesters last year. The present competition ends December 15th.
