The war on the drug methamphetamine is another step closer to getting a huge financial boost. Congress gave its final approval this week to a comprehensive anti-meth bill, which is now headed to President Clinton’s desk for his signature. It contains a proposal offered by Iowa Senator Tom Harkin. It would spend 25-million dollars on prevention, treatment and research. Harkin says it’ll cut the demand and the supply of meth. The bill includes 20-million dollars so authorities can investigate and clean up the highly toxic meth labs and another 20-million toward law enforcement training and equipment. It also contains tougher penalties for meth lab operators and traffickers.
