A minister from Ohio is the new leader of the Methodist church in Iowa. Reverend Gregory Palmer was elected Bishop of the Iowa United Methodists earlier this month and is starting to get acquainted with his new state. Palmer knows he has moved into a much higher-profile position. He takes over at a time when the church is experiencing “some pain over some difficult issues.” Palmer says the Church’s stand supporting equal rights for homosexuals is one of those issues.Bishop Palmer has a plan for dealing with the concerns is to continually state the church’s position and talk with parishioners.Palmer says it’s important to keep talking about the issues so that all positions are heard and they move beyond name calling and labeling. There are just over 200-thousand United Methodists in Iowa that will fall under Bishop Palmer’s leadership.
