The Iowa-based Garst Seed Company will store some controversial seed corn rather than distribute it for spring planting. “StarLink” corn has only been approved for animal consumption, but tests recently found it in taco shells sold in grocery stores under the Taco Bell name by Kraft. Garst Seed Company president David Witherspoon says it’s prudent to keep the StarLink corn under wraps until it’s cleared for human consumption.”StarLink” corn was engineered by Aventis CropScience and the Slater, Iowa-based Garst Seed Company has been the largest seller of the corn.
