Another attempt to bring Bonnie Campbell’s name to the U-S Senate floor for a judicial nomination -failed- Monday. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says the former Iowa Attorney General is being judged unfairly for comments she made in 1994 which some interpret as bigoted against Christian conservatives.Campbell was nominated months ago by President Clinton for a judgeship on the 8th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals, but congressional republicans are blocking her progress. Grassley says it’s impossible to determine if Campbell will ever get her shot before the Republican-controlled Senate.Both Grassley, a Republican, and Iowa’s other U-S Senator, Democrat Tom Harkin, support Democrat Campbell’s bid for the judgeship. Campbell is now director of the Violence Against Women office in the U-S Justice Department.
