Governor’s ride not fitted with unsafe tires

October 4, 2000 By admin

Iowa’s Governor is riding around in a Ford Explorerthe state leases from Ford. Joe Shannahan, a spokesman for Governor Tom Vilsack, says the tires on the vehicle are not under recall. By law, the Governor is to be driven by a State Trooper. S-V-Us like the Explorer have proven more likely to roll-over but Shannahan says Vilsack has confidence in the Troopers’ driving skills. Former Governor Terry Branstad was driven around in a Lincoln Town Car, but Ford began offering the nation’s governors the option to lease an Explorer, and Vilsack jumped at the chance because it had more legroom. The lease on the Explorer is cheaper, too.
