Congressional candidate wants rural renewal

October 6, 2000 By admin

The republican from Fairfield who’s running for Iowa’s third district congressional seat says it’s time for a federal “Rural Renewal” program. Jay Marcus envisions special “wage credits” for businesses which hire workers in depressed areas.Marcus says businesses should get higher credits for hiring local residents as opposed to recruiting immigrants from other countries.Marcus also suggests small businesses should get instant tax deductibility on purchases of equipment and technology.Marcus says when there are clouds on the horizon, like high energy prices, government needs to provide businesses incentives for investment and job expansion, or the economy will stagnate. Marcus is running against democrat Congressman Leonard Boswell.
