Rare triple birth found on Washburn farm

October 6, 2000 By admin

City folks may not recognize this as a big deal, but a northeast Iowa farmer is the proud owner of a triple-addition to his cow herd. One of Mel Brustkern’s cows had triplets, which is -not- a common occurrence.Brustkern farms in Washburn. He says the three female calves are fine.He says the calves are running and jumping just like normal. While Brustkern says his cows have twins about once a year, this set of triplets is rare. An Iowa State University expert says the odds are about one-in-one-hundred-thousand.
