Iowans will be able to celebrate their heritage today in an authentic settingfrom a century-and-a-half ago. The Red Feather Prairie in Polk County ishosting a festival called Rendezvous on the Prairie. Park Ranger KellyUlrick says visitors can talk with pioneers from the past, step into ateepee to hear Native American tales or try out pioneer-era games and food.The Red Feather Prairie is 170 acres of native prairie grasses overlookingthe Des Moines River Valley at Saylorville Lake. Ranger Ulrick says shehopes people who visit the reconstructed prairie can appreciate what it mayhave been like in the old days. There were once 30-million acres of prairiein Iowa and less than one-tenth of one percent is left. The family event isfree and open to anyone from 11 a-m until 1 p-m.
