City leaders in Clinton are considering an ordinance, which would make bars in Clinton off-limits for anyone under the age of 21. Clinton City Council member Dave Golden says if an establishment’s business is to sell alcohol, then underage people shouldn’t be inside. He says they have a problem in the city with underage drinking, and this ordinance would help.Golden says underage folks in a bar are naturally tempted by the allure of alcohol. He says banning them from bars reinforces the state law requiring them to be 21 before drinking.Golden’s proposed ordinance will be discussed tonight at five o’clock when the Clinton City Council’s “enforcement and regulations” subcommittee convenes. October 24th is the earliest the ordinance could be considered by the full Clinton City Council. Many cities, including Clinton, allow bars to welcome patrons that’re younger than 21 if the bar pledges to have a system to identify and monitor minors.
