Congressman Greg Ganske of Des Moines says 60 U-S Senators now support a patients’ bill of rights. Ganske, who is a republican, says G-O-P leaders are sitting on the bill. Ganske held a news conference in D-C yesterday to call for action.Ganges says Republican leaders in the Senate are taking extraordinary precautions to ensure the issue doesn’t come up for debate. He says they don’t want to bring the bill up for debate because they know it would pass.Ganske says it’s disappointing. He says they’ve built a lot of support for the bill and hopefully they can get it done this year or next.Other republicans have criticized Clinton Administration plans to put new rules in place which give some of the protections outlined in the “patient’s bill of rights”. Ganges, however, calls that a good step. He says additional federal regulations are welcome, but there is only so far the Clinton Administration can go.Ganske faces democrat Mike Huston of Des Moines in the general election.
