Worker recovering after water tower fall and rescue

A worker in Ottumwa who tumbled 60 feet to the bottom of a water tower yesterday afternoon broke his leg and cut his head. The worker was sandblasting the inside of the water tower, and he landed in the bottom of the dry bowl, which used to hold water. Rescue workers cut a hole in the water pipe at the bottom of the tower and lowered the man down.A crane from Eddyville was trucked over to help in the rescue.The man was in the tower for approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes.The injured man talked with rescue workers, who said he was coherent, but in pain.
