A worker fell 60 feet into an empty water tower in Ottumwa — and survived. David Gunninck of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, suffered a broken leg and cuts on the head in yesterday’s fall. A rescue team lowered Gunninck in a basket through the tower’s stem. He’s in serious but stable condition at University Hospitals in Iowa City. The team had been sandblasting the inside of the water tower prior to its painting when the accident happened.
