Madison County shows off bridges this weekend

The bridges of Madison County were a popular tourist attraction in southwest Iowa long before the book and the movie. This weekend marks the 31st annual Madison County Covered Bridge Festival. It features more than 100 arts, crafts and food vendors.Adam Cermak is executive director of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce in Winterset. He says detailed Civil War battle re-enactment’s will be held today at 2 p-m and tomorrow at 11 a-m.Cermak says the always-popular tour of the area’s historic covered bridges is being offered today and tomorrow. He says you can catch a tour bus on the southwest corner of the town square.There are also 4-K and 8-K runs, a car show, a tractor show, a parade on Sunday and a Victorian Hedge Maze.
