A Sioux City teacher was in Washington D-C Friday to accept an award from U-S-A Today after being named to the paper’s “All-U-S-A First Team.” Lisa Arnold of Riverview Elementary School was honored as one of the nation’s 17 top teachers. Sioux City schools superintendent Larry Williams says there’s a simple reason why Arnold got the award, she deeply involved in one of the city’s most diverse schools.Arnold has been teaching for 21 years. She’s responsible for developing the multicultural music instrument factory where students make instruments from the cultures they study. Williams says this national honor heightens the awareness of the city’s teaching profession.Arnold gets 25-hundred dollars to be used for her school. She’s the only teacher in Iowa to be recognized this year by U-S-A Today.
