Newton police investigate fire at kegger

October 16, 2000 By admin

Cops in Newton are investigating a weekend “kegger” where an 18-year-old Newton woman was severely burned. Cops are interviewing the ten teens that attended an underage beer party this past weekend. Eighteen-year-old Patricia Savage is in University Hospitals in Iowa City, being treated for severe burns to her legs. Newton’s police chief says Savage’s pants caught fire, and officers suspect gas was poured on those pants. The police chief says it’s a lot harder to get the truth when alcohol’s involved. Curfew violations and underage alcohol possession charges have been filed, but other charges could come if police conclude Savage was intentionally set on fire.
