Teacher could be fired in connection with deadly accident

October 18, 2000 By admin

The Edgewood-Colesburg school district is recommending a teacher be fired in connection with a car wreck that killed four students. Superintendent Gaylon Reinsmoen is recommending elementary teacher Carrol Walthart be fired, but has refused comment on his reasons for the request. It’s been reported that the four teens who died in the alcohol-related accident were at Walthart’s home the evening of the accident. Tests revealed the driver of the car, 18-year old Nathan Chopard, had a blood alcohol level of nearly four times the legal limit. Two of the other teens in the car had also been drinking. The 53-year old Walthart says there’s no basis for her firing and she’ll fight the action.
