Democrats promise to increase privacy

October 19, 2000 By admin

Democrats in the Iowa Senate are promising new hurdles to keep people from invading your privacy. Senator Johnie Hammond, a democrat from Ames, says medical data should not be distributed to pharmaceutical companies or prospective employers. And Hammond says identity theft is a crime that’s too easy to commit.Hammond says everywhere you turn, there’s evidence the information age needs some new privacy restrictions.Hammond says it’s time to let Iowans put their phone numbers on a “no-call” list to keep telemarketers at bay.Thirty-seven states allow residents to register their numbers on a “no-call” list and telemarketers get fines for calling those numbers.
