Iowa schools would get another ten million dollars for repairs under an education-spending bill that’s expected to be approved in the U-S Senate within days. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says 14-million children nationwide are attending class in buildings that are unsafe or inadequate.Iowa was already getting 28-million dollars to repair and modernize its schools as part of a pilot project that’s now underway. Harkin says the ten million in the new bill would be additional money.Harkin says Iowa is doing so well with its pilot project, it will serve as a model for all other states. The national plan to fix up schools is slated to be funded at one-point-three billion dollars.
