Bush campaigns in Iowa again

October 23, 2000 By admin

Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush stopped in Iowa today to speak to a partisan crowd assembled in a printing plant. The crowd of plant workers and G-O-P faithful applauded loudest when Bush talked of ousting the Clinton/Gore administration. Bush says he’s physically strong and his spirits are strong heading into the final weeks of the campaign. Bush says he feels the spirit of the people and feels the people are behind him.Bush spoke for over half an hour, touted his tax plan, and defended his plan to let younger workers invest some of the money they’d otherwise pay in Social Security taxes. Bush’s opponent, Al Gore, says that would bankrupt the system in a generation, or lead to benefit cuts. Bush says there’s two-point-four trillion dollars of social security surplus after the benefits have been paid. Bush says Democrats are using social security to try and scare people.Bush said the elderly will be taken care of “for certain.”
