November 1, 2000 By admin

About one hundred eastern Iowa students and dozens of teachers are taking part in a conference on human rights today at the University of Iowa. Kris Das is coordinator of “International Day 2000” which offers students and teachers a variety of workshops to learn about global struggles.Das says the category of human rights is broad, ranging from discrimination and poverty to racism and health issues. Participants in the conference are meeting in small groups to find ways to carry what they learn back to the classrooms and their communities. The keynote speaker today was Ravi Nair, a consultant to the United Nations and visiting faculty member of Yale University.
