IFA looks to regain credability

A state agency that came under fire last winter for allegedly playing favorites in doling out millions of dollars in federal tax credits is now using new rules. The Iowa Finance Authority awards the credits to developers of low-income housing. I-F-A policy director Loyd Ogle believes the process is greatly improved and more understandable.Ogle says the credits are worth a lot of money and there’s intense competition for them. For example, a 100-thousand dollar credit awarded for 10 years can give you one million dollars.Ogle says they try to find the projects that help Iowans. He says they have allot of different criteria for projects.Davenport, Council Bluffs and Sioux City each received two grants.
