Bush beats Gore in Iowa student election

More than 31-thousand Iowa students voted in a mock election yesterday, and George W. Bush won with 53 percent. The under-age voters cast 36 percent of their ballots for Al Gore, and about six-and-a-half percent of their ballots for Ralph Nader. Joe Whetstone, an eighth grader from Altoona, was among those who cast “mock” ballots yesterday. He says it was good to find out what voting is like.Ami Solinger, an Altoona eighth grader, watched the debates to find out which candidate she liked. Solinger says she agreed mostly with what Bush has to say.Jon Aldrich of Altoona, another eighth grader, watched the debates, too. He voted for Al Gore.Kids from over 200 Iowa schools voted by fax, e-mail and over the Internet in yesterday’s mock election.
