November 8, 2000 By admin

Creston police are warning of a scam that bilked a woman out of several thousand dollars. Police officer Trent Good says the scam began with a telephone call.A man called the woman telling her she’d won 35-thousand dollars in a lottery, but said she needed to pay the tax on the winnings ahead of time. Good says the man convinced the woman to obtain three cash advances on her credit card totaling over five thousand dollars. The woman wired the money to the man. Good says they are working to track down the man who collected the money. He doesn’t know of any other victims.Good says if you suspect a scam, you should call your local police or sheriff’s department.
