Iowa election officials say unlike Florida, there’s no automatic re-count in Iowa when an election’s this close. Democrat Al Gore won Iowa by just over 52-hundred votes. Eric Bakker, executive officer in the Iowa Secretary of State’s office, says there is a procedure for challenging the Iowa vote tally. He says someone has to step forward and ask for a recount, and post a one thousand-dollar bond. The request for a recount has to come after the canvas of the vote Monday.Bakker says election returns should all be in by noon, as there were just a couple of precincts still out.Bakker says Iowa’s turnout will probably set a record. The record was in 1996 with 1.2 million voters.
