Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack will not oppose republicans if the G-O-P calls for a re-count of Iowa’s ballots next week. The latest returns show democrat Al Gore won Iowa by just over five thousand votes. Vilsack says it’s within everyone’s right to have a recount, but Vilsack says he doesn’t think it will change the outcome.Vilsack says a recount may actually help underscore the integrity of the voting process in Iowa. Vilsack says he’s heard of no voting irregularities in Iowa. Under Iowa law, a candidate must make the request for a recount, and the request can only after what’s called the “official canvas” is complete. The official canvas happens in some counties on Monday, and on Tuesday in others. Bush campaign officials have two days afterwards to make a recount request.
