The deadline is fast approaching for Iowa high schoolers to take part in the “Know Your Constitution” quiz and a chance for a free trip to Washington D-C. John Wheeler is director of the Center for Law and Civic Education at the Iowa State Bar Association, which is a sponsor of the quiz.Wheeler says some six thousand Iowa students in grades nine through twelve participate in the annual contest, demonstrating their understanding of America’s founding document.A committee grades the entries and selects winners from each of Iowa’s 100 legislative districts. Those students and their teacher/sponsors are invited to Des Moines for a luncheon in January. At that event, five students and teachers are chosen for a weeklong all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capitol through the Close-Up program. The deadline for participation is November 27th.
