The Iowa chapter of the American Cancer Society is encouraging everyone to participate in today’s “Great American Smokeout.” Spokesperson Theresa Allen says this is the 24th year for the event that seeks to get people to kick the smoking habit. Allen says this year’s focus is a little different. She says they aren’t holding as many statewide events this year and are instead focusing on a media message aimed at kids. Allen says it’s important to target kids as there are three thousand young people a day that begin smoking in the United States. Allen says non-smokers can help smokers in their efforts to quit by letting them know they have support.Allen says for more information you should check out their website at: www.cancer.org or call toll-free 800-ACS-2345.
