Iowa’s unemployment rate continued it’s slow increase in October, inching up two-tenths of a point to two-point-five percent. Iowa Workforce Development’s analyst Shah Kahn says he sees a trend as the rate rose one-tenth of a point in August and September after starting out at a record low two-point-one in July. Kahn says the increases have been small, but are worth noting. He says the fourth-tenths of a percent increase over the past three months is significant, but becomes less of a worry if the rate holds the same for a few months. He says some of the plant closing earlier this year are causing the increase in unemployment as employees run out of termination benefits.Kahn doesn’t think the unemployment increase will last for long. The U-S unemployment rate for October was three-point-nine percent, unchanged from the previous month.
